Privacy policy

This policy describes Kanji Universe, the Lantern Gardens browser game published under the Imara Games name at kanjiuniverse.com.

No account, no name, no email

You can play without giving us a name, email address or password. A secure first-party cookie holds a generated player identity so your verified scores, purchase and feedback can be tied to the same browser; it contains no personal details. A short generated alias is shown next to your scores.

What stays in your browser

Your current garden, your best routes, journal discoveries, settings and your unlock status are saved in this browser’s local storage. They are not uploaded as a save file and do not sync between devices. Clearing site data removes them.

What our server receives

When you light every lantern, your route is sent to our server so the move count can be verified. Verified move counts appear publicly on that garden’s leaderboard and on the daily leaderboard under your alias. The feedback form sends your message, the reaction you picked and the id of the garden you were playing; please do not include personal or sensitive information.

Optional play statistics are off unless you turn them on, either from the prompt on the board or in Help. When on, they record visits, garden starts and solves, hint and undo use, sharing, views of the unlock screen and checkout starts, linked to the same pseudonymous player identity. We load no advertising or tracking scripts.

Run records, play statistics and feedback are deleted after 90 days, so leaderboards only show the last 90 days. Your player identity and alias, purchase records (including reversed or disputed ones) and hashed restore codes are kept so the unlock keeps working; email support@kanjiuniverse.com if you want them deleted.

Purchases

Chapters 1-3 are free. One $4.99 purchase unlocks chapters 4-10 and the finale. Payment happens on Stripe’s own checkout page; Stripe processes your card details and may ask for an email address for your receipt, and we never see your card number. We store your player identity, the fact that the purchase is active and a hashed restore code. Entering a restore code in another browser adds that browser to the same purchase; every browser where it was entered keeps the unlock, so treat the code like a password. All sales are final, as explained in Help & support; if your card issuer reverses a payment, the unlock is withdrawn.

Hosting

The game, its leaderboards and purchase records run on Cloudflare. Cloudflare and the host of this website process ordinary connection information, such as IP addresses and request logs, to deliver and secure the service, including rate limiting. Links to Stripe and Kanjipedia take you to services with their own policies.

Children

The game does not ask players for personal information and shows no advertising.
